Departing in mid May the plan is to drive through South Australia, with one over night stop between home and Port Augusta, or there abouts. From Port Augusta we will head north on the Stuart Highway.
We have not yet decided where or when we will stop along this stretch, but as we have travelled through this area before, we should be able to make good time.
Again we plan to use a combination of van parks and free camp sites.
Once we pass Coober Pedy we will be in unexplored territory, so we will be doing as many touristy things as possible.
We will continue up the highway, through Marla and into the Northern Territory. Once we hit Erldunda we will take a left towards Yalara/Uluru.
From there we will venture to Kings Canyon, and then take the Mereenie Loop Road, through the West McDonnell Ranges and onto Alice Springs.
We intend using Alice Springs, as a base to explore Palm Valley The East MacDonnell Ranges and Chambers Pillar.
The return journey will take us back down as far as Marla, where we turn onto the Oodnadatta Track, and head towards Oodnadatta. From Oodnadatta we will complete the journey through William Creek and down to Marree. (and although we have travelled this track on a couple of previous occasions this will be the first time we have completed its entire 620 km length in one trip.)
From Marree to home is a trip we know well, but you never know what you might find along the way.
A round trip of about 5000 kilometres, but with a few planned side trips, you could probably add another 1000 k's or thereabouts.....see how we go?
