This morning we found ourselves at the Alice Springs Reptile Centre.

They have a great number of Australian reptiles on display, the majority from the central and northern areas of Australia.
There are the mandatory “scary” species- the inland taipan – the most venomous land snake on the planet. Various pythons, many lizards and skinks. We had a very interesting presentation by the staff and had a very interesting hands on experience.

After visiting the Reptile Centre, we went across the road to the National Women’s Hall of Fame, which is housed in the old Alice Springs gaol.
The gaol was closed in the mid 1980's, when the inmates ware moved to a new facility 20km out of Alice Springs. The conditions within the gaol were primitive to say the least.
This is an interesting mix of interests, including the historic aspects of the gaol along with a superb museum dedicated to women who have made a significant contribution to this country.

A large number of storyboards give a brief outline of the achievements of the individual. Very informative and interesting.
