Trains, Trucks and Town tours......

Today we visited the Ghan Museum, a tribute to one of Central Australia’s icons.

Along with a locomotive and rolling stock there is a large amount of railway equipment, photographs, and storyboards relating to the operation of the Ghan line.

We also visited the adjacent Road Transport Hall of Fame.   This museum is a tribute to the many road transport professionals from across Australia.

There are many trucks, busses, and other assorted vehicles on display.  As the name implies it is also the home of the Road Transport Hall of Fame.

Many “Truckies” are honoured in the museum, including Hamilton Locals, Kingsley Peach and Ted Rowe.  There may have been other locals represented, but of the hundreds of information boards are spread over 2 dozen walls and in no particular order, so it was difficult to read them all.

Many of the vehicles are in quite good condition, but others have been left unrestored.

The museum is also home to a magnificent tribute to Kenworth Trucks.   This section of the museum is funded by Kenworth Australia, and its Dealer Network.

The Prime Movers in this building are beautifully presented, either having been restored or in as new condition.   Even Bev was impressed with this section of the museum, yes, she liked the pink one!

After lunch we toured the area, called in and had a look at Lasseter’s Casino, didn’t win our fortune……so retired to the van, and watched Geelong have a good win...
